So, in preparing to come home to our life where money doesn't stretch quite as far as it does here..
I've taken up cooking again.
Well, actually, I didn't give it up.
I just have been able to enjoy a few more rest days than I would normally have at home.
Like 3 or 4 rest days a week.
It's quite tricky to do when your kitchen is not equipped.
And the pantry is lacking a few of what I would normally call 'essential pantry items'.
None-the-less,
we are eating food.
Food I am making.
Yesterday morning
in an attempt to avoid going out for breakfast...
(at $5 a head, why would we not eat out?)
I decided to make pancakes.
But, I did not want pancakes as I would normally make them.
I wanted to make pancakes as we have become used to having them here.
Which brings me to a whole new thing....
what really is a pancake?
It's all so confusing.
I would normally make them so they would roll-up.
Is that not a 'normal' pancake?
I don't know.
Pancakes here come stacked up, not rolled up.
So I wanted to stack them.
But did not want to make giant pikelets.... which I initially did think was what was really being served.
No, I wanted pancakes, stacked up.
So... I did what all good bloggers do.
I googled and found a recipe on a blog.
And it was good.
My children were praising my amazing new-found ability to make pancakes in obviously the most correct way there is.... this is part of my immersion into ex-pat life here.
They believe that China has taught me an essential life skill:
how to stack pancakes.
They were over the moon with delight; and over the top with praise.
Seriously, I was on the verge of telling them:
enough already.
Anyways, here is a recipe for those of you who would also like to go this way with the pancake making...
I'm so lazy I can't even be bothered cutting and pasting it on my blog.
I did not add the vanilla essence as the recipe does... I'd run out.
I did not add the vanilla essence as the recipe does... I'd run out.
And onto the Shredding side of life:
This is two-fold.
I have some pants, that as a result of JM and shredding her way.... I will need to have taken in.
Pleased. Yes I am.
Also, today I got a paper shredder.
I am now very busy with that.
It is a completely non-essential tool..... but one that will take over my world if I am not careful.
And that, my dear Widge, is a whole heap of crap.... in one blogpost.
Take a sip of coffee now.

And yay for dropping pant sizes.
I've never heard of a rolled pancake, but like Cat we do our crepes that way. We stack our pancakes.
Good job on the shredding! :)
HA! Nothing like OTT praise, and coming from your kids that must be something. I wait with bated breath for mine one day.....
I am putting in an order for a session of those pancakes when you get back please.
And yay for the shredding! You go girl!
Lastly, I love you and will miss you at "the day of doom dinner"!!!
I am impressed! Not only are you eating out a lot more but you drop a size or two while doing it! That is fantastic. I will check out the recipe. I am not ashamed to say I actually make the BEST stacking pancakes in the southern hemisphere. Nope, not ashamed, but I will check out the recipe anyway. Love the roll up pancakes with lemon and sugar too.
